“Trim Your Rights: for the Sake of the GOSPEL – Expositions from 1 Corinthians 8:1-11:1”
Freedom and Discipline: Reflections on Christian Maturity (1 Cor 8:1-11:1)For some Christians, the Christian Way is primarily about rules — and these rules are in danger of engendering either self-righteousness, or resentment. For other Christians, what is attractive about the Christian Way is freedom springing from the abundance of grace — and this stance sometimes breeds moral laxity. Sad to say, one might even become more interested in what one can get away with, than in self-denial for the sake of others. How should a Christian think about these things, and act upon them? What does Scripture say? What bearing should such teaching have both on Christian ethics and on the NT emphasis on evangelism?
